It is strongly recommended that organizations provide initial clinical and software training for staff that will use the FAF (or supervise its use).

While there is no certification required to use the FAF, users who have received training prior to using the FAF software find the tool more effective, more enjoyable, and they access a wider range of its benefits.

On-site and web-based trainings are available.  Trainings are tailored to each organization’s needs and fees vary accordingly.  Options include training for direct service staff, data entry, evaluation or information technology staff, as well as train-the-trainer approaches.  For more information call 866-398-0979.

We have also developed the following FREE downloadable FAF training materials for your internal training use. These may be used as is or adapted to meet your unique program needs.

To download the training material just click on the the training materials title and you will be prompted to save it to your computer.

  • FAF Introductory PowerPoint (PPT) An initial orientation to using FAF as part of family support practice, designed to be held over the course of a 6 hour training day (may be divided into two ½ day sessions).  Includes information on FAF goals and philosophical underpinnings, overview of FAF assessment structure, instructions on how to use FAF for assessment and service planning, and practice exercises. Detailed talking points and trainer instructions are included in “notes view” for each slide.
    • Detailed Sample Training Agenda: Organized around the FAF Introductory PowerPoint, this agenda includes timeframes for each section of the training and links agenda topics to specific PPT slides.

  • FAF Practice Script: A sample interview between a mother and home visitor used for one of the practice exercises included in the FAF Introductory PPT. May be adapted and used independently of the PPT to practice assessment with the FAF.
  • “Is It A Goal” Quiz and Answer Sheet: Exercise that helps staff understand the difference between goals and objectives and how to write well stated objectives as part of service planning.
  • FAQs: Frequently asked questions about how to use FAF as a practice tool.
